The Buckets @ Mardi Gras Saturday, February 28th, 2009 by Nick

Here are a few of the photos I took from the Mardi Gras ultimate tournament in Baton Rouge last weekend. The Buckets were unfortunately plagued by injuries to some of the team’s key players, including Walch, my good bud and amazing ultimate player. Although they walked away with a disappointing 3-5 record we all still had a good time. It was great to catch up with everyone I hadn’t seen in a while. The drives there and back with Mikey, Ryno, and Walch alone made the trip worth it.

My fortune cookie was rigged. Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 by Kim

After a very late day at work, Nick and I decided to just stop at Pei Wei for dinner before we headed home. We don’t normally do that, so it was a little treat and since it was late, I think we would have gone crazy if we waited much longer to eat. Anyway, after my amaaazing salad, I had a perfect fortune cookie! It said something about not worrying, which unfortunately was very applicable after a day of waiting and then frantic running around at work. It’s just a hectic combo. (okay, so I have to add that we actually ate fortune cookies both before and after dinner- and we usually do there) I love fortune cookies! They’re brilliant because they easily double as apps before the meal and dessert for after. I made Nick take a photo to capture the memory of my great fortune. We were really cracking up at our fortunes -we probably ended up with a good 8-10 fortunes between the two of us- and now I wish we had photos of all of them because they were so entertaining. Then again, maybe we were just deliriously hungry.

Weekend Update Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 by Kim

So, while Nick was MIA this weekend I was busy with my own very girly plans. Okay, the only really girly thing was attending Legally Blonde, the musical, with my mom & sister. It was really funny! I didn’t really know what to expect, and I liked the movie but was never obsessed or anything. (But I do remember it was my first DVD: given to me on my bday from Anna…too recent to be my first dvd?) But the musical was so cute. I give it an A.

We also had a funny Jeff Bagwell sighting, where my sister kept making eye contact with him & said she knew “that guy” but felt bad because she must have taught one of his kids but couldn’t remember who. It took us a while, but we figured out he was an Astro, even having my mom narrow it down by saying it was “Bagby”. …the man sitting next to me cleared things up for us. Oops.

Other highlights of my weekend include a much-needed relaxing hang out with the Linds, a quick but fun Marisa & Bryson encounter, Brayden, Nick & I catching Scoober curled up sleeping in Nick’s laundry bag after he got home and some SYTYCD. No, So You Think You Can Dance isn’t making a surprise fall appearance on TV, I have just insisted that my parents keep the DVRed episodes from the summer, so I can obsessively rewatch my favorite dancers whenever I stop over. I think I’ve confused my dad a time or two because he thinks the show is current. I can’t really blame him though. It is pretty old to still be watching. It just doesn’t seem to get old to me! I’m going to put a sampling of some SYTYCD choreography on here. In other dance news, Marie, Houston Ballet’s world premiere opens Thursday. So, I’m keeping busy, like crazy busy & getting excited!

Just like dad Thursday, February 19th, 2009 by Nick

…And here’s what we came home from work to. He’s never going to get a job and contribute to this family if all he does is sit around playing Halo. Bum.

I’m going to Mardi Gras!! Thursday, February 19th, 2009 by Nick

I’m going to Mardi Gras!! Well, I’m not really going to THE Mardi Gras in New Orleans but I am going to the annual Mardi Gras ultimate tournament hosted by LSU every year. I’ve been the past 5 years straight and am super pumped about making my 6th trip to Baton Rouge for one of the biggest ultimate tournaments of the year. Unfortunately, my college UPA days are over and I’m no longer eligible to play with the Texas State team (The Buckets) but it will be good to reconnect with the guys and watch some good college ultimate. When I showed up to my first Mardi Gras tournament my freshman year our team was inexperienced and had yet to win our first game since becoming an official UPA team. However, just three years later we had built a strong team, athletic and experienced enough to walk away with third place (out of 50+ college teams). My 5 years as a Bucket were easily some of the best years of my life and this weekend I get to take a step back and relive the glory days of college, friends and ultimate. Here’s to being picked up on I-10 by a couple of vans full of college kids on their way to Louisiana.

Here are a few pics from Mardi Gras ‘07

Scoober’s 1st (and only) Race Friday, February 13th, 2009 by Nick

So this was over a year and a half ago but I wanted to share with you guys some photos of Scoobs’ first and only dog racing experience at San Marcos’ annual Mutt Strutt. Scoober easily won his first race (the other dog just stood there…what a noob) and barely lost his second to a dog who’s owner obviously pushed him/her to hard. Scoobs won and lost like a champ and he made his pops proud.
