Saturday we finally head to Nicaragua to visit the Thorwaldson’s. I’m coming back with a stuffed fresh water shark to mount over my TV.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Check back next week to hear about our adventures in Central America.

Painting 101 Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 by Kim

When I was little, I considered myself an artist and always said that’s what I’d be when I grew up (later also a vet).  The problem was that I would crumple up anything that “wasn’t good enough” and get all upset. I think this usually happened when I was an artist late at night…probably overtired if I know myself. I also remember my Dad telling me I would not be an artist because then I would live in a shack…I am pretty sure I enjoyed telling him that I would be an artist even more after I got this response. (Oops- Love you, Dad!) One of my favorite things to do was to go steal the pastels that were hidden from me above my sister’s IMGP1010desk. Then I would go to town on her cream colored upholstered desk chair because it was the best canvas I could find. I think I did that twice, but it was so fun I will never forget it. I know I was majorly busted for it, but I think it’s impressive that I went back for seconds! Gotta be persistent to live the artist’s life I guess.
I have to say I have always still felt like I’m an artist even though I don’t think anyone would believe me. My husband is the best gift-giver ever though and got me supplies to paint with for Valentine’s this year! :) Last night was the first time that I’ve had a chance to sit down and get to work. I think my perfectionism or obsessive-nature was showing its little face because I kept saying to Nick that I was certain I was about to mess it up when I added …whatever it was. It was so much fun though. I painted hydrangeas. I do love these flowers, but they were also sitting in front of me at the kitchen table, so I think they were more an object of convenience. I made them purple even though the ones on our table are red. I felt like Bob Ross the painter who used to mesmerize my sister and I when he painted on TV. I remember we were really sad when he passed away. Anyway, my painting experience was the best because I didn’t rip it up afterwards & I had a lot of fun! And to be sure to clarify what my Dad thinks of my creations, everyone should know that he has a painting of a clown I made in fourth grade on an easel in my parent’s room. More painting adventures to come, I’m sure!

Bump it Up! Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 by Kim

It’s true, I’ve been tuckered out lately! Just a lot of running around it seems. My friend Sarah at work wore her favorite birthday present around work the other day-a snuggie. She reminded me of the statue of liberty, a ghost & a smurf. Naturally we’ve had a lot of talk about “As seen on TV” products at work lately. Pretty cool that Walgreens sells them. Anyway, I secretly want a bump it. I just want to try it out and see how it goes. No harm there, right? The commercial is a real treat.

On a much more serious note, I thought I’d post this quote. It made me think.

“We will soon be in eternity, and then we will see how all the affairs of this world are such little things and how little it matters whether they turn out or not…When we were little children, with what eagerness did we put together little bits of tile, wood and mud to make houses and small buildings! And if someone destoyed them, we were very grieved and tearful at it; but now we know well that it all mattered very little. One day it ill be the same with us in heaven, when we will see that our concerns in this world were truly only child’s play.” -De Sales

He goes on to clear up “I do not want to take away the care that we must have regarding these little trifles, because God has entrusted them to us in this world for excercise; but I would indeed like to take away the passion and anxiety of this care.”

Give Kim some Energy! Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 by Nick

So I know Kim hasn’t posted in a while but she’s been super tired coming home from work the last couple of weeks. Here are some pics of what she does pretty much every evening with Scoobs on the couch. She told me she needs a lot of comments from friends and family to give her the energy she needs to start posting again…ok so maybe she didn’t actually say that, but let her have it anyways!
