South Padre…cancelled. Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 by Nick

This image here is why we are no longer taking a Bies family vacation to South Padre Island. Starting tomorrow we were scheduled to spend 5 days/4 nights on the beach. Unfortunately, mother nature had a different plan. The good news though is we quickly booked a place in Lake Conroe! It doesn’t matter where we go because the highlight of the trip was most definitely going to be this guy anyways…and he’s still coming.

Violet’s a party girl! Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 by Kim

So I’m feeling very thankful tonight for lots of things. We recently had a lovely shower for Marisa (Bryson) & Baby Violet. It was really fun, and for sure got me even more excited to meet the little one. Baby items are just so foreign and funny when you aren’t used to them. Example: a bucket thing specifically to cover their head when you wash the shampoo out (okay maybe that’s more a little girl thing than baby). Baby V will be very stylish. I can’t wait.

I had a fantastic bday. Thanks everyone! :) I’ve been a little leary of 24 because I’ve always considered myself more of an odd number girl, but it’s starting out to be pretty solid. I think it’s so funny how I change what “old” is. My mom just recently mentioned that one of my elementary teachers was in her late twenties & I was like, say what?! She always seemed like a grown up to me! It’s almost like they were the sneaky ones. But now I’m just in the club, in on the secret that we act like grown ups even though we’re really not. I had a similar revelation at The Sound of Music the other night when it clicked that Leisl is sixteen. Yes. “I am sixteen going on seventeen” should have done the trick years ago, but somehow it just sunk in that I’m almost a decade older than Leisl, who still seems like such a woman to me. (On a sidenote: check out trappfamily.com to see the real Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont and maybe stay up far too late reading about the true family history…)

Okeedoke, I’m spent from making 144 cookies, & the banging on the wall from the other room leads me to believe that I should go check on Nick. I think he’s hanging a shelf.

P.S. we’re taking a brief one night hiatus from Christmas tunes and jamming/dancing (…nick too) to John Mayer…I’m really liking it. One sounds so much like Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, but I don’t care. It also reminds me of talking each song to death with Amanda & driving to the food bank at 5 a.m. back in colegio.

A Saturday in Columbus Sunday, October 11th, 2009 by Kim

DSC02113_1

My sweet friends drove to meet up with me in good old Columbus, Texas…or Columbia as we kept calling it. We ate at Schobel’s, which I had heard a lot about and always wondered about. As I waited for the girls to arrive (after a quick-quick stroll around wally world) I naturally did some people watching Columbus-style. I saw lots of people enter the restaurant who I imagine have decades of Schobel’s experience behind them. It was really cute, and I imagine it’s a big hit on Sunday afternoons, if they’re even open.

To our surprise, Schobel’s is a buffet until 3 pm. Who knew? (we were there long enough to shut the buffet down though, no worries) So we loaded up with typical buffet “fixins”. Really it just felt more like we would eat, talk a lot, then go for a second, third…. lunch. I mean, we took advantage. Our waitress was also excited to meet our Baby Mama, and we were equally excited to tell her about our future baby girl.

It was really, really good to see Grace, Marisa & Amanda!! We missed the rest of our girls- poor Corrie was sicko. We had much needed face to face convo and laughed a good bit. It was like a tease though and made me want a good long weekend with them + others.

Sidenote: We discussed Grace’s bday a while back when we all piled in a 15 passenger van…Grace brought to our attention that many of us have since forgotten that the main event that night was her birthday, and now act as if we were only celebrating the usage of a 15 passenger van. (which in itself is worth celebrating if you ever have the opportunity for a joyride in one) You should know: I just said, “hey nick, remember the night of the 15 passenger?” nick: “yeah” me: “why’d we go out that night?” nick: “it was Grace’s birthday!” …Grace, I just thought you should know! :)

Map picture

Saturday we finally head to Nicaragua to visit the Thorwaldson’s. I’m coming back with a stuffed fresh water shark to mount over my TV.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Check back next week to hear about our adventures in Central America.
