The Buckets @ Mardi Gras Saturday, February 28th, 2009 by Nick

Here are a few of the photos I took from the Mardi Gras ultimate tournament in Baton Rouge last weekend. The Buckets were unfortunately plagued by injuries to some of the team’s key players, including Walch, my good bud and amazing ultimate player. Although they walked away with a disappointing 3-5 record we all still had a good time. It was great to catch up with everyone I hadn’t seen in a while. The drives there and back with Mikey, Ryno, and Walch alone made the trip worth it.

I’m going to Mardi Gras!! Thursday, February 19th, 2009 by Nick

I’m going to Mardi Gras!! Well, I’m not really going to THE Mardi Gras in New Orleans but I am going to the annual Mardi Gras ultimate tournament hosted by LSU every year. I’ve been the past 5 years straight and am super pumped about making my 6th trip to Baton Rouge for one of the biggest ultimate tournaments of the year. Unfortunately, my college UPA days are over and I’m no longer eligible to play with the Texas State team (The Buckets) but it will be good to reconnect with the guys and watch some good college ultimate. When I showed up to my first Mardi Gras tournament my freshman year our team was inexperienced and had yet to win our first game since becoming an official UPA team. However, just three years later we had built a strong team, athletic and experienced enough to walk away with third place (out of 50+ college teams). My 5 years as a Bucket were easily some of the best years of my life and this weekend I get to take a step back and relive the glory days of college, friends and ultimate. Here’s to being picked up on I-10 by a couple of vans full of college kids on their way to Louisiana.

Here are a few pics from Mardi Gras ‘07

Scoober & Chocolate…not a good mix Saturday, February 7th, 2009 by Kim

Well, it’s been a long time since we’ve posted anything, but it’s been anything but slow around here. Last weekend was a much anticipated girl weekend at Amanda’s new apartment…naturally, chocolate was in abundance. We thought it would be a great idea for Scoober to stay with the girls as well, because he loves us. When we first got there, we even had a conversation about dogs eating chocolate. However, that wasn’t enough to make us think twice about leaving Scoober alone at an apartment with a bowl of chocolates on the coffee table. A bowl of dark chocolate Dove’s actually. We returned from a late night Walmart run to Scoobs tap dancing around the apartment with seriously bloodshot eyes. The best part is that the bowl he ate from had a mixture of Dove’s & Hershey’s kisses. Only the Dove’s were missing though! Seriously! Like mother like son, I guess. To avoid killing you with suspense and possibly grossing anyone out with details, I’ll just say that he’s a-okay now! But man, it was a scary night!! Aside from the drama with Scoober, it was a wonderful time with some of my best friends! I just love how comfortable we are together, and I love to be reminded of how much time we always spend laughing together.

Nick and I also celebrated our 6 month-iversary on February 2!! We had a delicious dinner at Carabba’s & topped it off with ice cream after the poor waiter ran through our options about five times. oops! It was topped with glazed pecans, and they reminded me of the glazed almonds in Disney World!

Here are some photos Nick took on our exploration pit stop on our drive home. Luling, Texas made for some good exploring, but the smell of oil made it almost unbearable!

Cabo Honeymoon Thursday, January 15th, 2009 by Nick

If you haven’t been to our place since the wedding you probably haven’t seen these pics from our honeymoon. We went to Cabos San Lucas, Mexico and enjoyed seven wonderful days there. For those of you who don’t know where that it is it’s on the tip of Baja California (that little strip of land under our California).

Cabo, having the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Sea of Cortez to the east, is well known for it’s marlin fishing. So well in fact that we couldn’t go and not spend at least half a day out on the open sea. I mean everybody was doing it and everybody was catching something. That is except for us. We spent 7 hours at sea with Captain Cezar on a 12 footer with no luck. Our only bite was by the jaws of a sealion which luckily didn’t get hooked. No fish but a memorable experience nonetheless.

Om nom nom Monday, January 12th, 2009 by Nick

Mmm…that was a good turkey leg. Considering it was November when we actually went to the Renaissance festival with Taylor and Callie I’m just a little late blogging about our trip to…what town was it again? I honestly don’t remember. Anyways, we had a great time walking around watching all of the crazy old men wearing nothing but kilts and flinging around swords. Not to mention the half naked, not so attractive women. Here is a slideshow of our escapades.
