Apparently Scoober likes to pretend he is Superman when we’re gone.

It was so sunny today after all our rain/mist! I enjoyed a walk to Barnes & Noble at lunch but didn’t expect that I would get warm & need my sunglasses. It was fun seeing everyone sitting outside eating and such. I saw today that the CDC says “people are happier in sunnier places”…the big apple was rated last. Texas ranks 15. I initially wondered if part of that has to do with ’southern charm’/ people in sunny/southern places will rate their happiness higher just because they won’t say otherwise…I actually don’t really think so after reading the article more closely. And gosh, I just sound so cynical saying that!! ha

Anywayyy, I took quite a spill outside the theater this evening. It felt like slow motion & I guess I put my hands down, but in my mind it felt like I was just falling flat on my face. Thankfully I was with the sweetest Chinese reporters who babied me way too much & kept asking if I needed to go to the hospital (absolutely not that bad- no matter how much I whine), which is actually just the right amount of babying for me. Most of the visible issue is the nastiness of my ring finger/nail, which I held with a paper towel for a while before someone found a bandaid. Tonight I reverted back to age 7 when Nick poured hydrogen peroxide on my cuts. (only after I searched the apt. to no avail for the blue non-stingy cut cleaning stuff I know I bought once-nick wouldn’t allow that stuff anyway. No pain no gain I guess.)

Funny thing is, it’s my knees that are killing. They feel tender and smashed. I don’t know how to describe it. Even aside from the lumps from this fall, I’m remembering that my knees are pretty funny looking on a good day. Kind of lumpy, and this spill isn’t helping.

Just thought I’d share. I think I was due for a good spill. It had been a while for me. Also, Nick has a love for China, and today after the interview I wanted to understand Chinese & go to China. Add it to the list!

I had a fantastic bday. Thanks everyone! I’ve been a little leary of 24 because I’ve always considered myself more of an odd number girl, but it’s starting out to be pretty solid. I think it’s so funny how I change what “old” is. My mom just recently mentioned that one of my elementary teachers was in her late twenties & I was like, say what?! She always seemed like a grown up to me! It’s almost like they were the sneaky ones. But now I’m just in the club, in on the secret that we act like grown ups even though we’re really not. I had a similar revelation at The Sound of Music the other night when it clicked that Leisl is sixteen. Yes. “I am sixteen going on seventeen” should have done the trick years ago, but somehow it just sunk in that I’m almost a decade older than Leisl, who still seems like such a woman to me. Okeedoke, I’m spent from making 144 cookies, & the banging on the wall from the other room leads me to believe that I should go check on Nick. I think he’s hanging a shelf.

P.S. we’re taking a brief one night hiatus from Christmas tunes and jamming/dancing (…nick too) to John Mayer…I’m really liking it. One sounds so much like Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, but I don’t care. It also reminds me of talking each song to death with Amanda & driving to the food bank at 5 a.m. back in colegio.

This is easily the hardest I’ve ever seen it snow in Houston. Too bad
Kim’s at work and can’t run through it with me. Sorry scoobs I know
it’s cold but you have no choice.

Okeedoke, I’m back to cuddling with Scoober & mayybe wrapping some gifts up! I really want to stay on top of them & not do it all at once! We’ll see because I could also probably fall asleep right now: 8:30pm. I have some pics to share from the weekend soon.
